Our Purpose

Founded in March 2013, At the Fountain Theatricals is the first Stanford student group dedicated to musical theatre and performing arts education.  Accordingly, we hope to enhance and expand Stanford’s theatre community. Our aim is three-fold:

(1) to create additional opportunities for student performance at Stanford,

(2) to expand theatre education by hosting events with visiting artists and industry leaders (both on campus and virtually), and

(3) to offer a lab theatre venue for professional artists to develop their work in partnership with Stanford faculty and students.

Our Projects

Over the course of the year, At the Fountain brings theatre professionals from around the country to Stanford's campus to hold masterclasses, workshops, and talkbacks with students.

Additionally, we host a multitude of video conferences with theatre professionals from around the globe.

We also produce full-scale musical productions and revues to meet the demand for musical theatre among students.

To help foster a community of "theater people" at Stanford, we host social events open to all students.

Our Name

The name "At the Fountain Theatricals" is a nod to the song "At the Fountain" from the 2002 musical Sweet Smell of Success, music by Marvin Hamlisch, lyrics by Craig Carnelia, and book by John Guare.  The musical and Marvin Hamlisch continue to be an inspiration to many striving artists, including several of our founding members.
